ARE AR224

BILLET TMG CVR W/ O-RING CENTER PLATE

$400.00

AR224 – Billet timing chain cover with a removable center. The removable center allows a person to inspect the cam drive and adjust it if they are using an adjustable top gear. I recommend the Cloyes Hex-A-Just timing set if the customer wants to be able to adjust cam timing with the timing cover installed. The center plate is sealed with double o-rings for leak free operation and it is rigid enough to control camshaft endplay. O-rings are standard 2-041 and 2-044 size for easy replacement. The front of the cover is machined to accept a stock oil seal as well as the stock oil slinger. An adjustable TDC pointer is included. This cover fits under aluminum water pump housings without the need for any spacers and will fit with electric water pump assemblies. Oil seal installs from the front and can be replaced without removing the timing cover from the engine. These billet covers work with the AR281 cam button, the AR206 crank trigger bracket and fit the AR Engineering motor plates.

Billet Aluminum Timing Chain Cover

This is a part with a long history. The whole story started several years
ago when I wanted to build a stroker motor with a roller cam. I tried several
different solutions to set the end play or thrust adjustment on the camshaft,
but nothing worked very well. The best advice I could get from any of the
vendors was either, "We've never had a complaint before", or "Just use
a hammer until the end play is correct". Needless to say I wasn't impressed.
So I fired up the machining center and carved my own timing chain cover out
of billet aluminum.

This cover works with stock style dampers and does not require water pump
spacers. It also makes setting end play on roller cams much easier.

We offer a custom bolt kit for this cover.#HUG224B CLICK HERE

While I was at it I created a removable stainless steel center which was
sealed by a double o-ring arrangement. This removable center allows a
person to inspect the cam drive and adjust it if they are using an adjustable
top gear. With the cover in place the roller button on the cam nose has a firm
place to set end play from.
I've been running this timing chain cover on the stroker motor now for several
years and it is dead solid. The best thing about it is that it is bone dry after years
of service. The rail is about 0.500 inches thick and it really seals up the front of
the motor. The front of the cover is machined to accept the factory oil seal as well
as the oil slinger. A pointer for TDC is machined into the cover and fitted with a
pointed pin. This cover fits under the MP aluminum water pump housing, but it
won't clear some of the factory cast iron housings without grinding.

The snout around the front seal on this cover is 3.600 inches in diameter
which is larger than the stock cover.  Therefore, not all aftermarket dampers
will fit this cover.  We know that the Fluidamper fits as do the stock type dampers.
Also, the BHJ dampers fit.  We have been notified by a customer that the TCI Rattler
damper will not fit this cover.

Being able to set the cam timing without removing the harmonic dampener or the timing chain cover is one big advantage of the AR Engineering billet timing chain cover. This picture shows us setting the cam timing on a drag race 400 motor with a big solid roller cam.  A thrust button completes the setup but be prepared to machine the button to fit. We haven't found an off-the-shelf button yet that works 100% of the time.
