360-426 Dyno Engine
 
Block: 360 Magnum 4.030 Bore
Crank Assembly: Our “Hemi Sized” 426 stroker kit (11.6:1cr) with 4.180 stroke
Heads: Edelbrock Magnum our stage 3 porting, 2.08 int. vales
Intake: 340 Victor deep port matched
Rockers: Our 1.6:1 s/s rockers
Camshaft: Our hydraulic roller HER6468AL-7-3
Carb: BG 850 annular 80-88
Timing: 30º
Ignition: MSD
 
Over View
This was a street engine using 92 octane pump gas with cylinder pressure that was low enough that 90 octane could have been run. The goal was a very high torque, fun to drive, street car, and with over 450 lbs/ft torque at 3000R.P.M. it will be a hand full to drive on the street and a very quick accelerating. The final dyno pull, as shown here had 595 lb/ft of torque at 4900R.P.M. and 606HP at 5900RPM. This engine was over 100% volume metric efficiency from 4600RPM up, very good.
 
          -------What This Test Shows -----
 
That it is possible to build a very strong street small block that will live on pump gas 92 octane and be lots of fun to drive, if you can hook it up.  In a properly set up chassis, this engine has the potential of mid 10’s in a 3500 lbs. car and driver.
 
More torque could be developed and at a lower RPM with a smaller cam. Conversely a larger cam could be used to develop more power at a higher RPM, but this might require higher compression and a higher flowing intake manifold.
 
Note: I would expect a similarly equipped 340”/416” or a 360”/408” to develop the same horsepower and about 20lbs/ft/ less torque.
