Order Up! One Supercharged 318 to Go,Go,Go and Go some more!

9/14/2009

UPDATE January 2010: Thank you for all of your guesses. Some of you were amazingly close. So much so that we thought you might have been in the dyno room with Bob from The Supercharger Store....or..... you are very good with one of the better computer dyno programs.
This engine was featured in the March 2010 issue of Car Craft magazine and will be the sunject of a full feature in Mopar Muscle magazine.
    Here are the actual numbers:

No Supercharger: 370 HP and 349 ft/lb torque
With Supercharger:  662 HP and 587 ft/lb of torque

The winner of our contest is Joe O'Cone of New Jersey with a guess that was within 30HP. Watch the mail for your free T-Shirt Joe!
So, what does all of this tell us? Well, it's a safe guess that if this engine, without a blower, had a decent (tighter) Lobe seperation Angle on the cam and some good pump gas compression ratio beased on altitude, it would have been near 400HP and 375 ft/lb of torque. Remember, this is a 318! A comparably equipped 360 would be in the 460 HP and over 425 ft/lb of torque.
Be sure to grab a copy of Mopar Muscle and read all of the details.

NOVEMBER 16TH 2009.  Time for you to win a prize! Read the article below about our little 318 to get an idea of what we are doing. This 318 has been dynoed with and without the supercharger. You can win a free Hughes Engines T-Shirt (your choice size and color) if you can guess the power and torque of this engine.

  E-mail us your guesses for....
1. Peak Torque and at what RPM it was achieved.
2. Peak Horsepower and at what RPM it was achieved.
Guess the results without the supercharger.
Send your guesses to information@hughesengines.com

Remember, this is a 318 with 8.5:1 compression and a small cam with a wide LSA (for the supercharger).

We are building a 318 engine for The Supercharger Store that will be featured in some upcoming issues of Mopar Muscle Magazine. They are supposed to document this build-up in several issues (hopefully they will run it as much as they run the Engine Challenge articles) along with photos and text in order to whet your appetite to build a similar engine combination or at least read the magazine.
Ultimately his engine will be ran on an engine dyno and then be installed into The Supercharger Stores Dodge Dart.  It will then be, ran down the 1/4 mile, street driven, mileage tested , cruised etc.....  to see what the real world numbers are. In other words, just about every question you might want to ask about a supercharged 318 should be answered.
We are shooting for torque and Horsepower numbers in the big block territory.
Keep an eye on our website and The Supercharger Stores site to stay up to date.
