“Do I need a special distributor gear to use with my cam?” - (Never use a bronze gear)
Your CAM will be one of two types: cast or billet.
Cast cams are the most common. Generally, billet CAMs are custom order special. However, some suppliers have had a difficult time getting cast cams and have resorted to billet CAMs.
To tell the difference, look at the camshaft between the lobes and around the distributor. The cast CAM will be rough/cast looking. The billet CAM will be very smooth and machined looking.
