Issue #12 SB Mopar head rocker arm oiling systems
The L.A. oils the rocker arms with full system oil pressure up thru the block into the head. The oil hole is between the number 1 and 3 cylinders on the driver side and between the #6 and 8 cylinders, on the passenger side. These oil passages mate with a passage in the head that runs directly to the rocker shaft saddle. You have full system oil pressure thru the rocker shaft directly to the rockers.
The Magnum system receives oil from oil passage in the block that runs from front to rear thru the lifters (same as the L.A.); however pressure goes thru the lifters and up thru hollow pushrods to the rockers, and thru the rocker to the rocker’s axle shafts.
The L.A. heads cannot be used on Magnum block because the oil passages for the L.A. rockers are not in the Magnum blocks.
The Magnum heads could be used on an L.A. as long as you use oil thru the lifters, and oil thru pushrods.
Can you drill the Magnum block to have the L.A> oil holes? Yes, anything is possible! But the hole is about 8” long and if you are 1/8” off, start looking for another block!
